Design The design of a book or any publication should be in harmony with the content of the work. The design ultimately should showcase, not showboat. Typesetting QuarkXPress is a powerful tool that many desktop publishers don't know how to use to its fullest potential. This lack of knowledge can have an impact on the quality of the finished product. Because we know how to parnter our expert knowledge of QuarkXPress with proper typesetting standards, you get a quality product. Our standard operating procedures ensure consistant guidelines for how a project should be managed and checked at every stage. Every set of proofs, from first pages to final pages, is meticulously checked and rechecked. Images and Figures If you supply original art, we can scan and place high-resolution images. For some projects, it is more appropriate for the printer to handle the high-res scanning. In these cases, we will create image placeholders (FPOs) and supply files to the printer for a low-res/high-res swap. Sometimes art supplied by authors is not of the best quality and needs to be tweaked. Using Adobe Photoshop, we can clean up images and make the necessary adjustments to ensure your image looks its best. In addition, we can create new graphic illustrations or recreate poor quality illustrations using Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand. Tables and Graphs Does your manuscript contain tables of data or graphs? No problem. We are adept at creating half-page tables, full-page tables, multiple-page tables, and turn-tables according to your guidelines. We can recreate graphs suitable for publication from your original files. Print Production It is our responsibility to be in contact with a selected printer in order to verify the appropriate guidelines for supplying final files. We can create PostScript files and/or PDFs. These files can be shipped directly to the printer, to you, or can be posted to an FTP site. Electronic Files We accept editorially correct files, or we can enter the edits from the manuscript to the text files for you. Archiving & Reprints Our last step in a project is to archive final Quark files, final art, fonts, and any other files necessary to the printing of your book. Four Star Books' archiving system allows for quick and easy reprinting.
